I have had a chance to dick around with my Linkplayer 2 over Christmas.
Set up was easy. I have kept the original Japanese menu, rather than downloading the English beta (for the DVI WiFi player), which is not officially supported. This was easy when you use the English manual which can be downloaded. The player detected my Mac G5 and a linux based 250GH network hard drive no problem. I had to enter in the IP of my PC manually due to the XP firewall, but after that there have been no issues. When I turn on the Linkplayer I now have 4 items on the menu: DVD, Mac, PC and Network HD.
I have hooked up my plasma via the DVI connector, using a DVI to HDMI cable. Both 720p and 1080i outputs look great with no overscanning.
Updating to the latest firmware was painless, and if there was a DD via SPDIF problem previously, it seems to have gone now. I have connected a DD Amp via the optical output.
I have had no problem with any of the Xvid and DivX files I have tried to play. As a test I used lost s01e10 720p 5.1 converted to DivX 5.2 720p @ 7000MB/s keeping the original AC3 track using Dr DivX, and Carnivale s01e01 1080i 5.1, converted to DivX 5.2 1080p @ 10000MB/s keeping the original AC3 track using Dr DivX. Video and Audio playback was flawless. Playback of the small 350MB Xvid files (HDTV-LOL), which I think are around 240p with MP3 sound are also flawless and the player seems to do a good job with up-converting to the higher resolution.
I will try playing .ts files next week after the next firmware update. I have had an e-mail from one of the technical guys at IO Data, and he says the Firmware update at the end of December will include .ts support up to 20MB/s (hopefully 22MB/s, but not confirmed)
    More later....
