God service fra Emotiva :)

    God service fra Emotiva :)

    Syntes Emotiva fra USA fortjener litt skryt av hvordan de hånterte denne saken. Min XPA-2 effektforsterker bekynte å knitre og sprake i en kanal når den skulle produsere bass. Så jeg sendte de en mail på hva de mente jeg skulle gjøre. Det hele endte opp i at de sendte meg 2 nye kretskort. Ett "hovedkort" og ett "sidekort". Helt på deres kostnad.

    Good evening.

    The last few months my emotiva xpa-2 that I bought in 2011 has been acting
    up with a terrible crackeling sound in one channel. This happens when it
    tries to produce bass. The problem started early this year, and it have
    become worse and worse as time went by. In the beginning, the sound only
    came when the amp was cold, but lately the crackling have been there almost
    constantly.

    I have tryed a alot of things to make sure that the Emotiva actually was
    the problem. It I switch channels the bad sound moves to the other speaker.
    If i dont use the Emotiva, the bad sound stops. If i use a different set of
    cables, the bad sound is still there.

    I have had to stop using it. Right now I only use my surround reciver and
    the bad sound is gone.

    What can I do about this? I have been very satisfied with the product so
    far, but it would be a shame if it actually became useless after a little
    over 3 years. As I live in Norway I guess the shipping will be very
    expensive if I have to send it back? Will you even take it back after 3
    years?

    I would first like to say that I am sorry you are having a problem but we will do what we can to assist you in getting it taken care of.

    From what you have described the issue could be coming from one of two different PCBs but which one is causing the problem is a little tricky to diagnose remotely. I guess the first thing to do is find out a little more information about you. Have you ever worked on Electronic equipment before? That is to say, are you comfortable with disassembling the chassis, un-solding and re-solding?

    Your answers will be very much appreciated.

    I have a understanding about desolding and resolding. I did some of it 15
    years ago at school. But I would probably be more comfortable giving it to
    a professional. There is a tv/audio repair company not far away from here.
    If you tell me what that needs to be done, I can probably give the amp to
    them?

    You are still under warranty (you have a five year warranty).
    However, it would be quite expensive to ship your amp back here for repairs.

    We will be happy to ship you the replacement parts so you can have them installed locally.
    However, replacing boards in an XPA-2 is rather complicated, so it would probably be better if you were to pay a local service service technician rather than do the work yourself.

    Also, the actual circuit boards inside your XPA-2 may be any of several revision numbers, so I'm going to ask you to open up the top cover and tell us the part and revision numbers of the boards you actually have in yours.
    At this point, we suspect that either the actual amp module on the bad channel or the input board might be at fault, so please let us know the revision numbers for BOTH the amp module (the board attached to the heat sink - there are two - one for each channel), and the Input board.

    That's all the information we need.

    We'll be sending you two replacement boards. The soldering is a bit tricky, so you probably want to leave it to a professional tech if you're too out of practice - but we'll leave that decision to you.
    You'll be hearing from our head of support when the boards are on the way.

    Also, we're sending both boards because we can't narrow the problem down.
    Therefore, it might make sense for you to replace the "easier" board first and see if it fixes the problem; if so, then you don't need to replace the second board

    En ukes tid etterpå hadde jeg en stor pakke på 7 kilo ventende , som da hadde blitt sendt fra statene.

    Jeg har nå vært innom en Radio og TV-reperatør og betalte 1200,- for å få de til å skifte begge kretskortene. Ville ikke skifte ett om gangen slik de foreslo. Bedre å bli ferdig med det tenkte jeg Nå fungerer effektrinnet som en drøm igjen. Happy days. Med tanke på omstendighetene syntes jeg dette var en god og relativt rimelig løsning. Kudos til Emotiva for at de stoler på kundene sine og ønsker å holde de fornøyde selv 3 år etter at de har kjøpt produkter av de. Jeg ser for meg at andre selskaper kunne gjort dette mye vanskeligere.

    emotiva var tidligere kjent for å bruke noe drit av noen kondiser med navnet "seacon".
    bytter du de til elna eller jamicon har du kanskje en forsterker til overs
