Panasonic Introduces New 58-inch and 65-inch VIERA Flat-Panel TVs
in the Ultimate-image V Series
Berlin, Germany (September 3, 2009) – Panasonic has announced the addition of new 58-inch and 65-inch large-screen full-HD plasma models to their wide line-up of VIERA TVs. The new models take their places in the V Series, a line acclaimed for exceptional images with high moving-picture resolution, high contrast and rich colour reproduction. The new 58-inch TX-P58V10 and 65-inch TX-P65V10 deliver a powerful, remarkably lifelike large-screen viewing experience.
With a large screen that immerses viewers in the picture, the new V10 models provide at-home entertainment that rivals today's most advanced cinemas. The optimal viewing distance for a full-HD plasma TV is around twice the height of the screen. At this distance, the 65-inch model's viewing angle is 48° -- virtually the same as the 45° to 50° angle of premium seats at a cinema. Coincidentally, this is also the optimal viewing position for home cinema recommended by Dolby Laboratories, Inc. Drawing viewers right into the scene, the two new VIERA models are ideal for those seeking a truly powerful film viewing experience.
Panasonic has developed and manufactured TVs for 56 years. The stunning large-screen performance delivered by the two new V10 models reflects technology and expertise gleaned over the company's many decades as a world leader in the industry. And it reflects the company's relentless pursuit of the best in both image quality and operating ease.
The following introduces some of the image-creating features and functions that Panasonic, with VIERA, has brought to the large-screen TV.
Colour Reproduction When Viewed from an Angle
With screens 58 inches and larger, colour reproduction when the TV is viewed from an angle becomes a critical issue. This is because the viewer, even when seated in front of the screen centre, sees images at the screen edges from a relatively deep angle. Plasma TVs offer a generously wide colour viewing angle, so images are stunningly beautiful even at the corners of the large screen. VIERA's accurate rendering performance at all four corners of the screen makes it a superior choice, especially for families who want to enjoy colourful, vivid large-screen images.
Uniformly High Brightness Across the Screen
The V10 Series also deliver a remarkable dynamic contrast of over 2,000,000:1 thanks to the increased brightness achieved by NeoPDP technology and refinements to Panasonic's Real Black Drive System (a pre-discharge system). With these enhancements, the new models provide the kind of "infinite black" colour that pulls viewers right into the picture.
Plasma displays use a self-illuminating panel in which each individual pixel is illuminated. The light from each pixel, whether at the screen centre or periphery, is regulated, so brightness is uniform across the entire screen. Also, the wide viewing angle means that the screen does not appear dimmer at the edges. Even with 58-inch and larger VIERA plasma TVs, viewers enjoy highly detailed dark scenes in movies, thanks to uniformly bright images from corner to corner and edge to edge.
Enhanced Moving-Picture Resolution
The bigger the screen, the faster the images move across it. For example, an object that moves 2 inches on a 42-inch screen would move 3 inches on a 65-inch screen. Because the physical distance for images moving across the screen becomes larger, the ability to render moving images more quickly and crisply is critical for a large-screen TV.
The V10 Series adopts Panasonic's 600Hz Sub-field Drive Intelligent Frame Creation Pro, which helps to achieve 1,080-line moving picture resolution.*1 Even fast-moving objects are clear and sharp. Users enjoy a truly stunning viewing experience in large-screen TV, especially with ultra-dynamic action and sports scenes such as motor car racing events and car chases where the after images often appear.
Emotion-Rich Colour Expression
Colours are an extremely important element in movies. The Digital Cinema Colour function, offered exclusively in the V Series, covers 120% of the HDTV colour gamut. This is nearly equivalent to the colour gamut of films shown in most typical cinemas. In addition, the V Seriesuses THX Certified displays, so the images they reproduce are close to what the filmmaker intended the viewer to see. This is another reason why the V Series lets users at home enjoy a movie-viewing experience that rivals a good cinema.
VIERA TVs also offer a wide range of innovative networking functions. With VIERA, the TV continues to evolve from a device that is passively watched to a tool that is actively used. These simple, convenient networking functions are outlined below.
The V10 Series features VIERA CAST.*2 With VIERA CAST, viewers can access certain Internet content by simply clicking a button while sitting in their living room. For example, users can view such familiar content as Eurosport, YouTube and Picasa directly on their VIERA TV. Viewing large-screen images from a video or photo sharing site can be a powerful, satisfying entertainment experience. Viewers can access other information too, such as news, weather forecasts and stock market information. DLNA connection is also possible with the V10 Series. Digital data*3 such as motion images and still images saved onto a PC can be played on VIERA through a home network. For example, DivX content on a PC in the den can be viewed on a VIERA in the living room.
VIERA CAST will be expanding its partnership network to include the microblogging platform Twitter, German newspaper Bild as well as major European broadcasters, such as ZDF (Germany), and RTVE (Spain). Eurosport, which previously offered contents in six languages, will be adding contents in Swedish and Polish. In addition, users will also be able to enjoy the content from the established VIERA CAST partners YouTube, Google Picasa, German news broadcast Tagesschau, NOVA and Bloomberg TV.
VIERA Link makes it possible to operate devices connected to a VIERA TV via an HDMI cable by usingonly the VIERA remote. LUMIX digital cameras and portable Blu-ray Disc™ player have now joined the list of devices with VIERA Link compatibility. By connecting a LUMIX camera to a VIERA TV, the VIERA remote can be used to control playback of the still or motion images*4 stored on the camera. VIERA Link is environment-friendly too. It helps save energy by automatically powering-down the interconnected devices, switching them to Intelligent Auto Stand-by or Stand-by Power Save mode. The new VIERA models reflect Panasonic's focus on improving operating ease and entertainment while giving full consideration to the environment.
VIERA Image Viewer
VIERA Image Viewer has been added to all 2009 models. By simply inserting an SD card into the slot on VIERA, users can view motion and still images recorded in different formats with a LUMIX camera or compatible camcorder. For example, you can shoot sweeping video shots of the Alps, the Stonehenge or other beautiful landscapes, and use the VIERA Image Viewer to play the images on the V10 model's 58-inch or 65-inch screen. The huge screen, wide viewing angle and lifelike images immerse you, pulling you into the picture and making it feel as though you're right there amid all the natural beauty.
For even more viewer impact and entertainment fun, users can add background music and transition effects to their still-image slideshows.
In line with the company's commitment to protecting the environment, Panasonic equipped the new 58-inch and 65-inch models with a host of ecological functions.
With their lead-free and 100,000-hour long-life plasma display panels, Panasonic continue to create products that stand out for environmental performance. The 58-inch and 65-inch large-screen models also incorporate environment-friendly functions. Eco mode, for example, reduces power consumption by automatically adjusting the screen luminance according to room brightness and other viewing conditions.
With the worldwide economic recession, more and more people are choosing to spend time at home with family and friends. This adds to the importance of TVs that allow viewers to watch films and sports and play games. Available this autumn, Panasonic's new 58-inch and 65-inch VIERA V10 models will make it possible for people, in the comfort of their living rooms, to enjoy a powerful, exciting, true-to-life viewing experience that rivals today's most sophisticated cinemas. These models also let people use their TVs in exciting new interactive ways, thanks to networking functions such as VIERA CAST, which provides easy access to content on the Web, and VIERA Image Viewer, which gives users a quick, easy way to view photos and movies shot with a digital still camera or camcorder.
