Recommendations for budget surround system for living room

    Hi,

I'm a long time lurker on these forums (I can read Norwegian but not very good writing in Norwegian) and have been inspired by the posters in the AV rom construction forum. So much so that I've decided to turn the old kjeller stua into a dedicated film & music room.

I recently dropped a bit of money at HiFi Klubben and came home with some Dali Concept 6's, Concept 1's and a center together with a Denon 1911 that was a demo. It's setup in the main living area on the 1st floor of our enebolig. I'm no audiophile, but it is a great improvement over the Bose system I had before. My plan is to move this system down into the kjeller stua and replace it with a smaller system that is fine for general tv watching and kids movies. All the serious film watching will be done downstairs :-D

I saw this review recently and was wondering if this was the right way go. The LG looks to be the best buy here and suits my budget of under 4000kr. It would need to interface with a CD HD PVR.

Any other recommendations or experience with this LG system?

Looks like there is a problem with the Lyd & Bilde website as it reports a database error. Hopefully resolved shortly. This is the link:

These cheap surround setups are crap. You're much better off buying a stereo setup or 2.1 system (front speakers and a sub) for the living room. Movies can sound very well with only two speakers as well. Better to have quality in two channels rather then something poor for every channel.

    +1

"Plastic fantastic", as we tend to call it

I think you would be better off with a Geneva or a B&W Zeppelin.
Geneva is far from you budget, but Zeppelin is nearly within:

This is the cheapest 5.1 system I would recommend:
KEF KHT-2005.3 BLACK - Høyttalerpakke for film- og musikkelskere

The price is really good at dustinhome, it costs the double at other stores:
    KEF KHT 2005.3 5.1 med Sub | Surround.no - Høyttaler-spesialisten

    Review:
KEF KHT 2005.3-K1 review from the experts at whathifi.com

But even better would to be to buy a two channel system for the same money.

Thanks for all of the input. I think that I will wait until next year when I can get underway with the new AV room and then look at picking up the Jamo S606 HCS 3 5.0 and Pioneer VSX-921 when they drop in price a little. That gives me a little more time to save money in order to buy something half decent for my budget.

    Other recommendations most welcome.

    Cheers
