Hello from BenQ

Hey, and welcome to our exellent forum here! it's a lot of talk regarding benq on this forum these days. especially since the prices are very competative to their competitives.;-) one question: we did understand that the benq 8700 couldn't get 1280x720 from a htpc via dvi connection, but some said in a test that it would accept this setting from a dvd player. is this correct? and also some comment that the pj should be set to ana instead of thru. good to have you onboard:-)

I have to say this is the current product limitation. Since the application of HTPC (Home Theatre PC) is getting more and more, I do agree that the ability to support this function/timing is more important than before. The reason to restrict the aspect ratio at 4:3 while using 1280x720 through PC is that graphic cards standard varies so we had to restrict the aspect ratio in order to fit most of the cards. I will request our Product Managers to put this into our market requirement for our next models.

regarding htpc, ok, but will it accept 1280x720 from a stand alone dvd player, like my pioneer 868 connected with a hdmi to dvi cable?

A few members here have recently had the 8700+ for testing via HTPC.
factors noted was a lot good ones, but also 1-2 not so good.
*very much heat emitting, maybe the effect of the bulb is a little much? brightness was also necessary to reduce to 7(!) on a grey screen, 240 wide.
*not 1:1 pixelmapping from HTPC, a fix for this is anticipated.
*Incorect factory settings, a lot of adjustments needed to be made prior to viewing optimally.
Do you have any comments on this?

Also, if you could be so kind to share the average internal running temperature with us, that would be great...

Yes, there should be no problem to do so.

one other thing peter, the 8700 uses the Sil504. this doesn't seems to be the case with 7800. what kind of deinterlacer/scaler is it in 7800?

Do you have any information you could share about the forthcoming 8720 model?
