Im Quasimodo. Italian established in Norway ( since about 10 years) and I still suck in norwegian. Im ashamed of myself...
Anyway,Im new to the forum (10x for having me) Im new to the whole AV business.
In fact,i dont understand most of it. So please dont...insult me too hard
I just started my VERY first surround system as i had NO idea how vital it was.
Until now I thought that the sound of the tv was enough.
Long story short: I got me an ONKYO 608 receiver ( 2 weeks ago) and 2 DYNAVOICE M65 speakers.
And this is pretty much all I have so far.
I have SO many questions,I dont even know where to start.
So I'll try to take just a few at the time so it wont get too crowded.
While/if answering my questions, please bare in mind that I am a poor student, living on 5k a month after everything has been payed :/
1. What will be a decent budget alternative for rear speakers ? And by decent I mean a set of speakers that are not costly ( finn.no is my new friend ) but at the same they are good enough to REALLY be considered.
2. Should I really consider bi-amping the front speakers, considering that my receiver can support that? Is it worth it?
3. I have a TON of different sound adjustments ( or presets actually) on my receiver and I am clueless about which one to chose. Any...shortcuts/tips in how to do that effectively?
4. Would would be a decent center and subwoofer, considering my poor shape economy?
And what the hell the 3 little holes in the back of my speakers ( the ones just above the wiring plugs) are for ?
Please forgive my ignorance and complete noobishness in this.
In order for you guys to understand just how hard I suck at this: I have a very vague idea about what base mean, but I am utterly clueless about everything else mean ( diskant etc)
So if any of you would like to help me,please bare in mind that I am an idiot when it comes to AV.
I am very good at photoshoping though so I may be able to "trade" help if needed.
I also understand norwegian VERY well so english is not required in the reply.
Even if I miss a word,I can always ask someone around me.
Is just a LOT easier for me to think and write in english.
Thank you so very much and thank you for having such a brilliant forum and the genius idea of an english forum.

Hei, og velkommen hit!
For å svare fort før jeg legger meg:
1: (skip) :-P
2: Ja, det synes jeg du bør gjøre. Vet du hvordan, forresten?
3: (Sorry, er ikke så kjent med Onkyo...)
4: Se #1
De tre hullene bak er bassportene. Lufttrykket går inn og ut derfra. Veldig enkelt forklart...
Du har iallefall kommet til rett sted. Spør, så får du nok svar!

2. I found a diagram ( I lost it in the meanwhile but I think I can find it again) that shows idiot proof how is done.
3. I am on my way to Sweden in 30 min but once I get back I shall lay some pics and specs about my Onkyo.
And no,not the 4 big holes. The 3 little holes just above the plugs for the wires.
I have 3 little holes there, metal caged displayed in a triangle.
The dude I bought the speakers from said they have something to do with fixing the diskant but he was equally green about it
P.S. Anyone that reads my thread: just let me knoe what sort of pictures/explanations you guy require and I shall post them asap.

I also have a receiver/amplifier bought 2 weeks ago.
I can not operate in Oslo or anywhere else than Vestfold.
P.S. What I need is rear speakers, center and subwoofer. And a TON of advice/answers
Sorry for being such a noob...

Im more of a stereo guy than home theatre, but i have a couple of tips.
1: The center chanel speaker should sound kind of the same as the front speakers. The easiest way is to go with the same brand. The dealers is a web based firm who ships wherever you like. Surround.no - Høyttaler spesialisten
2: More than 50% of the sound in allmost every movie is sent to the Center chanel. Therefor it is very important to buy a pretty large center chanel.
Maybe this one?

3: Rear surround speakers are not so important as the Center so use most of your budget to the center. It is also less important that the surround speakers match the fronts, doesnt hurt tho. Maybe theese could be ok? They are apperently built to match your front speakers.

Well,I have a set of Sony speakers that PERHAPS,I could use as rear speakers?
They belong to a stereo that isnt working anymore but the speakers are just fine.
I just wonder if I'd be considered retarded for even thinking to use them in the rear
I'm uploading some pictures of it so that you may ( hopefully) tell me how "brilliant" my idea is.

Først, +1 til Magb. Helt enig i det han skriver!
Har googlet litt, og fant denne om høyttalerne dine. Den forklarer en del om de tre "hullene" du skrev om.
Onkyo'n kan bi-ampes, (noe du bør gjøre), men jeg vet ikke hvordan, da jeg ikke kjenner Onkyo.
Ja, de småhøyttalerne kan brukes bak til du finner noen andre, gjerne i samme serie.
Ha en riktig god jul!

Thx a bunch Jami.
First off, great help in the few lines you posted. You rock !
Second,I already bi-amped my fronts.
I cant honestly note any difference aside from a clutter of wires behind my video system but hey...if 3 different people says you look like a dog,you better learn how to bark
I already installed the rear speakers (from my old Sony) but I aint happy at all.
I dont know if they just suck all together or maybe the fact that I had to..."elongate" the cable may have something to do with their overall performance.
However,my budget is busted until january but I did arrange a deal with some dude to sell me his Yamaha speakers that I will be using as rear speakers.
One thing I am concerned about though: when I bought my fronts, they came with Monster cables.
However,I cant afford more Monster cables so I bought some other type of speaker cables ( so I could use for bi-amping) that are thinner. They seem good quality ( produced in Sweden) but they ARE a bit thinner than the Monster cables.
Is that somehow affecting my audio experience ?
Merry xmas everybody!
I'm far from done but I'll let you enjoy your holidays
And remember: if any of you wants some designing work done ( webpage headers, forum signatures, avatars, etc) I'm the guy you want to talk to.
Free of charge of course,in exchange for audio advice

Ok,xmas over so...back to business
I found a pair of DCM-KX10.
- are they recommended as rear speakers?
- is the price decent ( have I found them cheap/are they worth the 500 nok)
- will I be better off buying these instead: Yamaha NFS-333 + Stativer for 1200 nok?
The Sony speakers I mentioned earlier kinda suck...
Also, each time I change channel ( my canal digital decoder is connected to my ONKYO 608 via HDMI) I get a weird noise in my speakers. Like a balloon popping or something. Very short noise ( half a second) but very annoying.
Anyone knows what that is ?

Friends,people, I need advice ASAP PLEASE !!!
I must chose between:
- DCM-KX10 ( 500 kr)
- Yamaha NFS-333 + Stativer ( 1200 kr)
I must chose today as tomorrow,I have to buy one or the other.
And please advice about the cables.
I need to buy budget speakers cable but good at the same time.
Please anyone ?

Bruk Sonyhøytalerne, da slipper du dette stresset med å skaffe
nye høytalere fort. ;-)

Besides,at some point I will have to get me decent rear shiz anyway so I may just as well do it now while I have vacation.
So please, which one? And what sort of cable ?
12-26-2010, 22:44 #17

As for the Sony speakers,I havent test them as fronts.
It would be irrelevant considering that I didnt had enough cable ( thus being forced to patch the one I had) and I dont have a center yet. I mean i do but is tiny.
The reason I considered DCM speakers is because of their price and the reviews I saw on the net. Granted they are big but...according to the reviews, they are playing excellent.
I figured that with the cash I save from the rear speakers,I could invest in 20m of cable.
But you are right, they ARE big.
God damn it I am stuck ffs...
If I buy the Yamaha ones,I will have to drag the sofa forward which will create I nasty space between the sofa and the wall ( in order to make room for the speaker holders)
Grrrr....I HATE thing thing !!!!
And I still have to invest in a center and a subwoofer...

Btw,I also found a pair of MAGNAT 101 1501 with supports as well.
Magnat høyttalere - FINN Torget
Are they any good ? Or still too big for rear ?
Could anyone have a quick look on fin.no ( for vestfold area only) and see what speakers I should buy? As in ,which ones available there are "best buy",best return for the cash, best bargain, etc.
Please can anyone do that for me ?

Min mening: Fortsatt for stort. Du trenger bare noen små høyttalere for lyden bakfra. (Eller fra siden, egentlig.)
Magb nevnte oppover i tråden noen alternativ, og jeg personlig ville spart penger til dem.
Hva tror du om det?
Kanskje bruke et par hundrelapper på et godt sett med kabler til frontene dine?
