    ------------------------------------------------------------
This is a simple mod extending the ATI Remote Wonder II radio range. In my apartment, concrete walls, the RW II was hardly usable from the room of the PC/receiver, even after adding a 3 meter USB extention cable to the receiver. After doing the mod, RW II works perfectly even two rooms away, any further not tested. The mod is simply extending the antenna length.

As for the optimum antenna length I don’t know. The RW II transmits at 433 Mhz with a wavelength of 0.69236 meters. I read somewhere on the web that for mobile units, the antenna should not exceed 5/8 of the wavelength meaning 0,43 meters. The RW II helix antenna is aprox. 0.27 meters if extended, and my approach has been to add 0,14 meters of wire to this antenna. This is probably not optimal, any advice on optimum antenna length would be appreciated.

    This is how to proceed:

Figure1. Remove the two torx screws from the bottom side of the hand unit. One screw is covered by the front sticker, the other by the battery cover. Separating the top and the bottom part of the chassis without causing damage to the parts is hard. I managed to separate them using my finger nails only, no screwdriver etc. Start working on the long sides.

Figure2. Solder a piece of wire, eg. 14 cm, to the RW II helix antenna. Make a tiny hole in the bottom part of the hand unit chassis for the antenna to extend through. If you do not want to make adjustments to the chassis, you could try winding up the wire inside the chassis, but the resulting range is not nearly as good. Press the chassis parts back together and apply the screws.

Figure3: The result looks like this.

A similar procedure can be applied to the receiver. Remove the four soft pads covering the torx screws in the back side of the receiver. Remove the screws. Separate the top and the bottom part of the receiver, this is far easier than with the hand unit.

Figure4: Remove the receiver chassis top. Solder a (0,14m) piece of wire to the end of the helix antenna.

Figure5: Melt a tiny hole at the top point of the chassis for the wire to pass through. This can be done by heating an object with a slightly larger diameter than the wire, fx. with a cigarette lighter. Reapply the chassis parts, screws and the soft pads.
